Malleshwaram Market

Maya went to her first outdoor market today! It is one of the markets I used to go to that with my parents when I visited India. She really loved seeing all the flower garland maker stalls. The garlands are made for weddings, temples, special occasions and to wear in your hair. Of course maya bought some for her hair! Here are some pictures:

This is someone making the garlands. This is a very big and thick one, probably for the temple.

Here are some pictures of the vegetable market. There were so many different varieties of eggplants, beans and fruits.

These are leaves from the banana tree that are used as plates! Better than paper and organic.

The large dishes of red powder is what is used for the RED DOT on the forehead! The yellow powder is turmeric.

After visiting with several relatives, we went back to the hotel for a rest before dinner. Dinner tonight was at Windsor Manor. This is the hotel that most foreign dignitaries stay it when they fist Bangalore. It has beautiful gardens and 6 speciality restaurants. We ate at Dakshin, which showcases all the best dishes of South India. The food was so good, and the wait staff was overwhelmingly attentive. You are not allowed to do anything by yourself ! I could get used to it. Here are some pictures from dinner:

The security was very tight. The car was scanned top to bottom, before you could drive through the gate. To enter the lobby you had to go through another security check. This was the gentleman that helped Maya through!

This is the place setting at the restaurant. The green leave is a banana leaf that we saw at the market in the morning. All the plates and cups are silver.

This picture and the one below are of the menu. It felt like a nice heavy book. The front is all tiled. The pages are all printed on silk

They had live music during dinner. Maya was a trooper, trying all the differentt dishes
